FLAVOR OF THE WEEK - BASEBALL NUT!

This week's ice cream color inspiration from Twinkle Twinkle Like a Star Summer Of Color 2012 was Baseball Nut ice cream.  It is a creamy vanilla color with raspberry swirls and nuts.  I decided to do an art journal page again this week.  I used gesso, acrylic paint, saran wrap, distress ink, color wash, my favorite Crafter's Workshop stencis and topped it off with a motivational quote.

It's been so much fun thinking of colors in terms of one of my favorite desserts - ice cream!  Makes the colors just so yummy.  Thanks for joining me for dessert.

PLAYING AT A DESIGN FOR THE TEAM!

Over at the Child's Play Blogspot they are having a Design Team call.  I have been having so much fun designing some layouts based on favorite children's toys and books that I decided I would take a chance and try out for the team.  The challenge for the call is to build a layout inspired by the following fun child's toy:

Although we did have this toy when my boys were young I couldn't locate an unscrapped photo of either of them walking and running with it so I decided to take my inspiration from the balls that pop up and down on the inside of the toy.  In wanting to keep the theme with balls I came across a cute photo of my youngest and his cousin playing in the Small Fry Ball Pit at a McDonald's back in 1999.  I hope to have captured some of the popping movement of the balls around the photo by not spacing them evenly and by having some jump in front of others the way they would in the toy.

Here's my take-

Hope you have enjoyed seeing my take on the inspiration and I will keep my fingers crossed on making the team!  Wish me luck!

HELLO SUMMER!

Welcome to Summer!  Welcome to the Welcome to Summer Blog Hop!

In case you just stumbled upon my blog the hop starts with Ashley - http://theglamoroussideofscrapping.blogspot.com.  If you are hopping along already you must have come here from Diana - www.daisylovecreations.blogspot.com.

Since this hop is all about summer and the fun we have in it I thought I'd look through my photos and find something really fun.  I saw these cute pics of my youngest son in the middle of a jump into the pool and thought they would be just perfect!  I put my layout together using a sketch I found over at Sketch Inspiration.

It was a fun sketch and just perfect for the photos I had chosen - on the board, in the air and hitting the water with a splash!  Here's my layout.

Your next stop along the way is Tammy- http://tampatha.wordpress.com

Please make sure to stop at all the blogs along the way and leave a sweet comment for a chance to win the fun blog candy being offered by our sponsor Ashley.  I hope you have enjoyed your splash here and that you are off to the start of a fabulous fun summertime!

CHILD'S PLAY AND EVERYDAY MIRACLES!

Today I had a double dose of inspiration.  Over at Child's Play Challenge Blogspot I decided to play the Cozy Coupe challenge.  For those of you who aren't familiar, the Cozy Coupe is a cute little ride-in  car by Little Tykes.

I found a cute photo of my youngest son riding in his little Cozy Coupe and then decided on using the Creative Scrappers sketch that is this month's challenge over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles.

and here is the outcome-

I hope you've enjoyed riding along in Thomas' Cozy Coupe!  Thanks for hopping by.  Have a great day!

IT'S ALL CHILD'S PLAY!

The inspiration for Challenge #3 over at Child's Play Blogspot is the wonderful book "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak.  I decided that for my layout I would use some photos from a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure Wild Safari Theme Park back in 2001.

Hope you have enjoyed this little peek into our ride through the safari.  Thanks for hopping by.

CHOCOLATE CHIP MINT!

This week's ice cream color inspiration from Twinkle Twinkle Like a Star Summer Of Color 2012 was mint chocolate chip ice cream.  I decided to do an art journal page this week.  I used acrylic paint, gouache, gesso, distress ink, distress stain, some Crafter's Workshop stencils and topped it off with some rock candy distress crackle paint and a quote.

It's been so much fun thinking of colors in terms of one of my favorite desserts - ice cream!  Makes the colors just so yummy.  Thanks for joining me for dessert.

SCRAPS TO TREASURE - DAY 1

Welcome to the Scraps to Treasure blog hop.  We have been inspired to use our scraps to create something beautiful.  This hop is for two days and you will find new projects each day.

We have two AWESOME sponsors for this hop offering blog candy.  Shannon Leffew Keith will be donating an item from her Etsy shop and Cori Wagner of Ginger Snap Scraps who will be donating a $10 gift certificate to her store.  In order to be eligible for entries to win you will need to become a follower of the host blog and leave comments on all participating blogs both days.
The hop started at Robin ~ http://scrapandchat.blogspot.com/
You should have arrived here from Cicily - http://pinkdalmationscrapper.blogspot.com/

I decided to start off by showing you my heap of scraps!

For my first project I decided to do a page in my art journal.  I went thru my scrap basket and chose several different pieces of complimentary papers.  I tore them into different sized and shaped pieces and put them on my page in collage fashion.

Around my collage I used various complimentary colors of gouache paint.

While still a bit wet, this was covered and mixed with gesso.

I left this overnite so that it would be completely dry before adding my next two layers of acrylic paint.
The first layer was put on with a dry brush.

The last layer was put on with a dry brayer.

One of the things I enjoy most about art journaling is that I can do anything I want on top once my base page technique is complete and I often will use an inspiring quote or scripture.  Today I chose my inspiration from a story about a man that hiked the Appalachian Trail.  Although it was about his dream to hike, I felt it applied to making any dream a reality.  The journaling reads:

Make your Dream a Reality.
YOU must take the first step.
Many things will not be as you imagined.
Travel light.
Get up every morning and start.
Valleys come before Mountaintops.
You will meet OBSTACLES.
LIVE in the Shelter of the MOST HIGH.

Thanks for joining me on my mixed media journey from scraps to treasure.  Your next stop on the hop will be Jessi at http://mylifeinartscrafts.blogspot.com/

Come back tomorrow for a new scraps to treasure project!

Summer of Color with a sketch thrown in

I just completed a layout inspired by Raspberry Sherbet.  My inspiration was from Twinkle Twinkle Like a Star Summer Of Color 2012 Ice Cream Inspirations.  The color combo was raspberry sherbet.  Mmmmm....doesn't it look simply scrumptious?

Using that as my starting point I next flipped through my other challenges and decided upon this week's Guest Designer Sketch at Colorful Creations which I turned 1/4 turn counter clockwise.

and here is the result:

Hope you've enjoyed taking a peek!

LOOK WHO'S 6!

Well, that should say who WAS 6...the photo is from 1998 and is showcased using Creative Scrappers Sketch #211 rotated 1/4 turn clockwise.

MAKING MUFFINS!

To go along with the freshly churned butter the second grade made some yummy corn muffins.  For my first page I got my inspiration from the Color Room Palette #113.  Since I was working on these Sunday evening and Monday morning I thought they would be perfect for WIP Monday!

Inspiration for the next page comes from Colorful Creations Sketch-a-Thon #22 which I rotated 1/4 turn counter clockwise.

CHURNING BUTTER!

Second Grade was a fun time for food.  After apple day was such a success the teacher decided to show them how you can make butter from cream.  The kids really enjoyed this as you can see from their sweet expressions.  To showcase these photos I used Sketch #2 from Creative Scrappers Sunshine Crop.

Rather than using just one photo I wanted to be able to show not only the teacher but the kids enjoying the process so I made a few changes.

Watch for an upcoming page on making corn muffins to go with the delicious butter!

AN APPLE A DAY!

Back when my son was in the Second Grade they had an 'Apple Day' where they tried several different kinds of apples.  Here is my first layout from that day using Creative Scrappers Sunshine Crop Sketch #1.

My second page of Apple Day was done using Sketch #23 from the Colorful Creations Anniversary Sketch-a-Thon which I rotated 1/4 turn clockwise.

Lots of fun in the sun!

Using a sketch from the Early Bird at Creative Scrappers, and the theme honey bees and hexagons over at Paper Issues, using eyelets for the stash challenge and Paper Secrets and challenge #4 of the Scrapping Everyday Miracles Birthday Party I created the following summer layout with a photo from back in July 1996.

This was the sketch:

and here is the layout!
