HAPPY AUGUST!

Today I have two layouts to share with you.  The first one was done for the Flying Unicorn July Characteristcs Challenge.  You were to select a fictional or real character to base you layout on.  I chose Tinkerbell and The Play Date Cafe challenge #192 had the perfect color palette.  Of course, I was up so late last night I didn't post this and I missed their closing time!  :(

and the other layout I completed was for my August 1 Anything Goes challenge at Colorful Creations.  I decided that it would be fun to make the theme for the month Steampunk!  I had a lot of fun working on this one using embossing, lots of Distress Inks and several shades of Perfect Pearls.

Happy Friday!  I am finally getting to sit down and start creating.  I started with my Daisy Yellow Index Card a Day challenge using the prompts definition and stencil, which I did using Twinkle Twinkle's Summer of Color Week #2 color palette of orange and hot pink.

I used a bit of hot pink acrylic paint and then some tube watercolors in hot pink and orange and moved them around with a wet finger.  I next used a Crafters Workshop Template and an Adirondack Paint Dauber in Snow Cap and randomly added to it.  I had some old Prima rub-ons one saying Be Inspired and several designs so I added those and then a definitions sheet of the word inspire which I colored with orange and pink chalk.  I finished it off by randomly stamping parts of a Donna Salazar stamp.

Next I decided to work on a card.   I used color palette #187  from The Play Date Cafe and sketch #203 from Tuesday Morning Sketches.  I am also entering this in challenge #85 on Word Art Wednesday.  I used a great orange card base which I stamped with my Donna Salazar background stamp.  I chose some papers, a flower and some leaves, stamped my sentiment and put it all together.

A DAY OF PURPLE!

Today was a very purple day...I got dressed this morning and sat down at the computer and spotted a cute photo of an old classmate.  She had on a pretty ruffled purple tee shirt.  I sent her a quick compliment and she sent back that it was a purple day.  I looked down and realized that I was wearing purple shorts and a grey and purple striped shirt.  

I went on to work on a layout I started gathering everything for last night...yes - you guessed it - monochromatic purple!  I did this layout for the Colorful Creations Twisted Blueprints challenge using paint and this sketch:

SENDING HUGS & PRAYERS

Today's card was done in this week's colors from the Play Date Cafe, challenge #147 and you leave me in stitches at Our Daily Bread.  I used a background cardstock in olive green and a black and white printed paper which I inked with Distress Inks in the other three colors.  I added a doily which was inked in the evergreen and smoke and stamped with a sentiment from Our Daily Bread. I stitched down the one side with evergreen thread and I finished it off with a crinkly ribbon from 3 Girl Jam.

Today I loved the color palette I discovered on The Play Date Cafe Blog - challenge #146.  I decided I would like to make a clean and simple thank you card.  I went into my scrap basket to choose some of the right colored papers and I was so happy to find some corrugate in black and some banana skin in green.  I found a black and white print that I love and I was ready to roll once I grabbed my distressor and some ink.

My Play Date at the Cafe

Today I completed a challenge for the Play Date Cafe Blogspot.  The challenge was to create a card using this fabulous color palette:

I searched through my scrap basket for pieces of the appropriate colors.  I also spotted a great little piece of ribbon on my desk that worked.  I opted to make a Thank You card as they are always good to have around and I started cutting everything up.  I have been itching to use my new MS punch anywhere on the page punch and I thought the upper corner would be perfect.  After I pieced everything together I decided that I would like to color in the spots I punched for a little more of a look to it and I found some perfect markers in my set of Spectrum Noir just waiting to be used.  Here is my creation:

MESSAGE IN THE POCKET!

I just loved the colors over at the Play Date Cafe this week.  I had some great Distress Inks in those shades so I started by inking my cardstock with all three colors.  I then used a background stamp on top to give it some interest.  I wasn't sure what to do next when in my pile of scraps on my desk I spotted this great little pink pocket shaped polka dot paper.  It was the perfect size to fit a tag into and the perfect size for the card so I decided to make a pocket card with the sentiment in the pocket and the inside of the card blank for a personal note.

For the tag insert I used a manilla shipping tag which I inked with the Yellow Lemonade Distress Ink.  Then I took my favorite Crafters Workshop template and the Persimmon Distress ink and made a pattern.  Last I stamped my sentiment which was the quote 

Life is measured in moments

Live every moment

Laugh every day

Love without regrets

I followed that up with Happy Birthday! added some ribbon and the insert was complete.  Here it is:

I was also excited about the idea of a pocket because there is a fun challenge over at Colorful Creations for a pocket so I will be entering it there too!

Today I took a hop over to The Play Date Cafe and found this wonderful color combo...

I needed a card of encouragement for a friend recovering from a stroke and I decided to pull it together using this wonderful combination.  Here is what I came up with:

A Spot of Nature

Here's a few photos of nature from my walk in the park last weekend with Michael.  I used a sketch from The Paper Variety along with the color challenge from The Play Date Cafe of black and white with a spot of mustard.

I rotated the sketch 1/4 turn clockwise to accommodate my photos.
