THIRD SECOND FLOOR CHALLENGE

I had so much fun creating these art journal pages.  I used the technique of the week from the Art Journaling Club of the OutlawWomen Scrapbooking Emporium, a project that I needed to complete about myself for the class I am taking with Nana Campana called Ashes to Beauty and the Third Second Floor Challenge which was to do a project prompted by 'truth'.  The technique was to draw puzzle pieces all over the page, gesso the page then color the pieces (which I did with colored pencil and turpenoid) and then do your project on top - which I then added stenciling with Molding Paste, Picket Fence Stain and Gold Paint Dauber, and then writing down the first 10 of my Character Strengths from the VIA Survey of Character Strengths.

Here is my finished work:

I hope you have enjoyed coming with me to the Second Floor and learning a little bit more about me all at the same time as checking out my latest creation.

THE FUNNY THINGS THEY SAY!

This month's challenge over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles is asking you to create a project that focuses on the people in your life that brighten your day with their silly side.  More specifically, the funny things they say

I immediately thought of a story from when my older son was just over 2 years old.  He had recently been to a children's puppet performance at church that was followed up by an alter call which he went up all by himself and asked Jesus to come into his heart.  One of the other things Robert loved was trains.  All kinds.  We would take him out to local train shows on a regular basis.  The journaling on my page tells the story...it reads:

Imagine what I thought when you were driving to work with me one morning and from the back seat your tiny voice says..."Mommy, I want Jesus to come out of my heart."  I nearly slammed on the brakes right on the highway.  "NO!  You don't."  Determined, you said "YES I DO!  I want him to come with me to the train show on Saturday!"

Here is my layout:

Hope you enjoyed this little peek into my now 19 year old son's childhood.
Thanks for stopping by.

ASHES TO BEAUTY WEEK 1 PROJECTS

I am taking a wonderful course with Nana Campana called Ashes to Beauty.   All the assignments have bible study, writing and creative projects.  I thought I would post my creative projects here.  I chose to do art journaling for my creatives. These are the ones I did for week 1 in my journey.

I would like to share them as my 'WIP' Monday projects on Scrap Scene.

Hope you enjoyed this little peek into my journey,

STUCK ON U SKETCHES

Today I discovered another sketch blog and have done a layout using the following sketch for the base of my layout:

I had several different sized photos I needed to get on this page but needed a sketch that I could use as a base.  Here is my interpretation:

Hope you have enjoyed this little peek into our day at Children's Garden in Camden, NJ.

Ginger Snap Scraps Grand Opening Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Ginger Snap Scraps Grand Opening Blog Hop!

Ginger Snap Scraps is owned by Cori Wagner, a stay at home mom who has been scrapbooking, card making and rubber stamping for 15 years!

Ginger Snap Scraps carries Cricut Cartridges always for $35 and under. They have popular brands such as My Mind's Eye, Tim Holtz, Copic, Doodlebug Design, The Twinery, Bella Blvd, Graphic 45, La La Land, Little Yellow Bicycle, Riley & Co., Peachy Keen, and any more!

Many wonderful ladies have created projects to show case some of the brands that are available in the store.

I decided on a simple mono-chromatic birthday card for my project.  I started with a 5x7 base card and covered it with aqua cardstock.  Then I took the Cuttlebug Happy Birthday embossing folder and used another piece of the aqua cardstock.  I distressed and inked the edges and the embossing with Versa Magic Chalk Ink Turquoise Gem.    Then I took Carribean Blue twine and wrapped it around the card 3 times in each direction.  In the center I put the aqua flower brad from American Crafts Flower Shoppe.  Inside I stamped the sentiment "May all your Dreams come true" in Turquoise Gem.

Please visit Ginger Snap Scraps today and enjoy free shipping on $25 orders to the U.S. and Canada!

The full line-up for the hop is:

SECOND SECOND FLOOR CHALLENGE

The challenge this time around is to use something from your art stash that you've never used before.  Whatever that means to you or however it inspires you.  The prompt is simply meant to get you started.  The level of challenge you aim for is entirely internal and up to you.

For this challenge there really wasn't anything in my stash I've been waiting to use but there was a technique I wanted to try which used various items in different ways.  I decided that since the technique was new and I'd use a lot of different products some of which I don't use often it would make a good trip to the second floor.

My project is an art journal spread using the quote "Once you choose hope, anything's possible" -Christopher Reeve.  I started by coating my pages with Matte Mod Podge.  I cut several different lengths of different colors of embroidery floss.  I dropped them onto the page and pressed them in with my fingers.  Then I took a sheet of hot pink tissue paper (I would have used white but I didn't have any).  I crumbled it and then unfolded it and pressed it down into the Mod Podge.  Once I was satisfied I gave it another coat of Matte Mod Podge.  I then dripped on some pink acrylic paint and some gesso and spread it over the texture with an old credit card.  I loved the webby textures that were created by the thread and the crinkly tissue which were further accentuated by the lighter shades of paint.  I added gold stickers for the words CHOOSE HOPE.  I wrote the quote on the page with a Pitt marker.  I finished it off by dusting it with Gold Perfect Pearls.

Here is the result:

Thanks for stopping up to my second floor.  Hope you enjoyed the trip!

SCRAP IT GIRL!

Today I found a challenge on 'Scrap It Girl' to use Creative Memories cutting system and/or other CM products.  Although I don't use many of their products I do have the cutting system and it is fabulous.  Here is the layout I used using two different frame shapes both inside and outside cuts.  I paired this with the Spring Color Challenge on Colorful Creations.

Hope you like it!

SHOW ME YOUR CHEVRONS

This months challenge at Paper Issues is to "Show me your Chevrons".  I am so happy to be able to present this layout I did recently using chevron papers as well as a cut chevron.  Photos are from my youngest son's first Easter back in 1999.  Hope you like it.
