SURF'S UP!!!

Have you ever seen the fun movie Surf's Up?

Several years ago I had a job doing merchandising for Sony.  They often treated us to copies of the movies that we were placing.  This was one of the ones I received.  My younger son absolutely loved it and we watched it several times. He is now 16 and we don't have as much time or inclination to watch the many animated films we own on DVD.  A few weeks ago he decided we should pull this one out again and watch it together.

I had recently been catching up on scrapping some old beach photos from 1996.  It was fun getting to play with my new Echo Park collection 'Splash!'

These photos are not of my movie buddy but of my eldest.

Here is my layout -

Here are some fun close-ups~

I know that you can see that the entire layout is beach themed but I also included some actual parts of the beach - here are some real shells.

(They are a part of a fun new product called Mudd Puddles!)

Don't you love that great swirl of water?

How about those cute little fishies?

and finally cute little Robert!
(this photo and the caption are on
pop dots for a bit of added dimension!)

So I hope you have enjoyed my Surf's Up
blast from the past.

I am going to enter this layout into this week's showcase at 2 Creative Chicks and Anything Goes challenge #194 at Word Art Wednesday and Tinker-Dream challenge #31 Summer and Anything Goes challenge #1 at A Bit More Time to Craft

All comments greatly appreciated.
Thanks for stopping by!

ANOTHER JULIE NUTTING DOLL AND ANOTHER LAYOUT GOING BACK TO THE BARN!

Hi everyone!  Greetings from humid stormy Delaware.  That thunder last night sounded like the world could be coming to an end.  It even set off some car alarms in the parking lot of my complex.  It's still humid today but at least no storming...yet...

I had fun creating a tag with one of Julie Nutting's Decade Dolls - Jill - our gal from the 1960's.  It was for a challenge over on Addicted 2 Paper Dolls Facebook Group.  The problem is I mistakenly shared it openly when it was for a later reveal...so I can share that one with you now...and let you know that in about 2 weeks you will get to see the one that I actually ended up entering.

Here is the challenge -

Create a Julie Nutting or C-thru the Woods Boy or Girl Doll tag, card, canvas or project of an activity that you like to do based around a Summertime Song.

Here is my first one which I can't enter...

and a few close-ups-
check out those white patent go-go boots!

and the title of my summer song!

The next doll I did will be shared with you in a week or so...so keep your eyes open!

Next I have a layout from a few of the photos from my trip to Rivercrest Farm for that fabulous fun Barn crop with Robin's Scrap Nest

I chose this sketch from
Let's Get Sketchy July week #1.

And here is my layout -

with some fun close ups-

These boots were part of the base paper but I needed to add that other strip for the design so I fussy-cut around the tops of the boots and slip the strip under!

This fun little hat was on a different ribbon but was given to those of us lucky enough to be attending the crop by our fabulous hostess Robin Adair Lawrence Immel!

This little bird was from Robin also!

and this sticker was from my Carta Bella Giddy Up Boy collection and I thought it was just perfect for this picture of all of us attending the crop!

I hope you have enjoyed these creations.  I expect to be back tomorrow with more!

I really love knowing you were here and to know what you thought so please do leave me a comment!

FROM THE PAST TO THE PRESENT

My first share today is a real blast from the past. This photo was taken the day my youngest son was born.  I created this layout for the Soul Scrapper challenge ABC6 - F is for Flair Buttons (plus a word beginning with the letter "F").

and now for a few close ups.

Here is my flair button! I gave this to my older son the day my younger son was born.

I thought this would be a cute accent for the page as my younger son ended up really loving horses.

Here is a great quote about brothers.

and another great brother quote...and this one meets the other challenge criteria - a word beginning with
the letter "F" - friend.

The next project I am going to share is a real "off-the-page" project.  It is for a site I just discovered called Fashionable Stamping Challenges.  It is for challenge #99 which calls for stamping a person or persons.  I am not a great stamper - I usually only stamp sentiments but I have become a huge fan of the Julie Nutting doll stamps and had just received a few of them that I hadn't used yet so I decided to 'go for it!'

This is one of my fun thrift store finds...

It's hard to tell but the center is a mirror.  There was plenty of room around it to alter so the next thing I did was decide how to cover it.  I started by coloring the sides of the piece plus the sides inside the mirror black. Then I selecterd several different patterned papers and cut them into small rectangular shapes and overlapped them all over until the piece was totally covered. On top of this I added a coat of Mod Podge.

For the doll I selected Skyler.  I based the piece loosely on my 16 year old son Thomas who is very musical - spending most of his waking hours playing guitar and banjo.  The paper doll was stamped first on some ivory paper.  I paper pieced the clothes and used colored pencils and turpenoid to do the skin and hair.  I also coated Skyler with Mod Podge and put him on pop dots for more dimension.

The three sentiment stamps I used were 'Dream' related. I stamped them in black and then heat embossed.

So that covers my stamping portion of the project. All that is left was to add two great chipboard pieces which were custom made for me by Cassondra Gloden of Infinity Engraving.

And finally...HERE is my finished creation!

Here is the inspiration behind that piece, (as well as the little newborn baby in the top layout)!
I am also going to share this project at
Word Art Wednesday for challenge #187 as well as to use it as a designer sample for applying for the design team at Crafty Hazlenuts Patterned Paper Challenge.

I hope you have enjoyed viewing my latest creations!  Please stop back again soon...I'd also be thrilled if you leave a comment and maybe become a follower.

WECOME MARCH!

So welcome to March!

Did it come in like a lion or a lamb where you live?

No matter what the weather, it's always a good time for creating.  And that is what I have been busy doing for you so that I can present this month's challenges from Colorful Creations and Scrapping Everyday Miracles.

For the first challenge this month at Colorful Creations you are challenged to create a layout inspired by this photograph and the word Luck or Lucky.

The challenge begins today, March 1st and will run until March 14th at 11:45 pm CST.

Here is my take on the challenge:

This is my younger son Thomas just after opening his most wanted Christmas present - a Les Paul style guitar.  What I took as inspiration from the photo is all the circles, I embossed gold stars at the bottom to represent the gold bowls on the table.  All the corners have something in them except the left lower corner.  I also was inspired by the colors blue and brown.

Over at Scrapping Everyday Miracles there is a card sketch, a layout sketch and a theme.

The theme is 'Laughter is The Best Medicine' and the Bible Verse Inspiration is Psalm 126:2 "Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy; then they said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.”

Here is the card sketch:

Here is the layout sketch:

These challenges run until 3/26/14.

Here is a card I did using the theme and the card sketch:

Be sure to visit both sites and to take the challenge and create something to share with us.

I hope you have enjoyed my creations!
Thanks for stopping by.
